L04 design process part II

With an understanding of the geometric dependencies, I designed the CAD model. I checked the lamp socket, sizes and proportions by constructing a second model made from folded cardboard.

LAMP-04 design process part III

Following the CAD design, the base of the lamp was created as a 3D print using PLA based material. To achieve the final mirror-smooth finish, the 3D form was sanded and coated with epoxy filler.

Using the 3D printed form I made a negative mold of the base from polyurethane.

The negative mold was filled with concrete. The base was then finely ground and polished to a smooth finish. The grain from the birch wood veneer lampshade glows beautifully warm with a vintage style carbon filament LED bulb.
